About Us

Growing up on her family farm and during her adult years working with our horses, my wife has experienced the frustration and dangers of working with gates. Such as the tendency of a gate to not stay in the open position as you try to pass through the opening with a vehicle or piece of machinery. This tendency is typically caused by the condition of the gate installation or more likely the wind on that day. Previously the only options you had to keep the gate safely in the open position is to block it open with a suitable heavy object or you could have another person hold the gate while you pass through. Without another person or object to securely hold the gate open you run the risk of the gate swinging without warning as you pass through the opening possibly harming you, and or damaging your vehicle, machinery or the gate itself.

My wife also experienced the same problem when working with double gates in a single opening, you have double the difficulty, two gates that need to be safely secured in the open position when passing through with vehicles. Double gates also typically need to meet up in the center of the opening at the same time to be secured by chains or rope. This can be a dangerous challenge since both gates tend to swing wildly in random directions as you usually have to literally run to get them both in the center at the same time.

My wife offered a few suggestions for a device that could make the use of gates safer and far less frustrating. My business partner & I were both raised on our family dairy farms here in Wisconsin and we have both worked with our share of gates, so we immediately understood her concerns. With the goal in mind, we all put our heads together to design a product that we now manufacture at our business here in Wisconsin. We named it Gate Tender, and we are proud to say it greatly reduces and in most cases eliminates the frustration and dangers just described.
